Once upon a time ... it often starts like this:
Once upon a time, there was a legend: Périgord would be the land of 1001 châteaux!
The Good Lord wanted to dot the Kingdom of France with castles. So he went with a heavy bag and, on the fly, like wheat, he threw handfuls of castles here and there.
He had already traveled through many counties when, passing through the Périgord, he gave a good nudge to pull up his enormous satchel.
But he noticed that it was punctured: it was yawning widely, letting towers, curtain walls and pepper shakers escape.
So, before getting back to Paradise to renew his supply of battlements and machicolations, the Father shook the bottom of his bag on the stony hillsides of the Dordogne, Vézère, Dronne and Auvézère.
And so much and so much that no country was found richer in castles, manors and manor houses.
