Honeyfarm of the Perigord Vert
Whatever its color, the Périgord is a land of good food. Today, forget about all the famous dishes, there are also numerous local producers willing to share their delicious products.
Among them, just outside Thiviers, you will find the “Miellerie du Perigord Vert”, a place where you can learn more about bees and the secrets of making honey.
The honeyfarm is close to Thiviers , about 20 minutes from Château le Verdoyer away.
This small building is shared in two parts. A permanent exhibition is dedicated to beekeeping with hives and especially equipment from different periods.
Although this part interesting is, more exciting is the visit of the section devoted to the work of the beekeeper. Together with the owner, Robert Besse, you discover the running of a honeyfarm but moreover you can see the extraction of the raw material of the hive in order to make delicious honey that you taste for breakfast on a fresh “baguette”.
After following the steps in the process leading to the production of honey, we can of course enjoy the finished product. And also its many variants in different flavors following the flower visited by the bees, including regional flavors like chestnut. An exciting and intensive visit in the Périgord Vert.
